Buffalo Mountain in Virginia - Home of Puto kosztarabi.

One of my favorite places is "The Buffalo Mountain" it is one of the most significant natural areas in Virginia, the elevation is 3,971 feet and it has public access facilities include a small parking area and a steep 1 mile hiking trail to the treeless summit. The mountain contains wildflowers, grasses, and rocks on the summit.
Buffalo Mountain is also the only known location in the world for a giant mealybug called Puto kosztarabi, though I haven't seen this creature yet.

Me and my husband used to climb Buffalo Mountain together with Dino and Bandit 3 - 5 times a year especially during winter time when the weather ain't too bad. I wanted to go there during summer but my husband doesn't like that idea because he is worried about snakes and too grassy., We're planning to climb there again this coming fall when the tress/leaves change into different colors.

Snow, Sleet and Freezing Rain!

Yay! Bad weather here! This morning my husband went to work while I was still in bed, it's always happened anyway LOL! After 2 hrs., he called me from work just to let me know that all schools were closed due to inclement weather but I already expected that and also got an automated email from the school system. I called my sister Balotlot, to ask how's the weather in their place 'cause we've been waiting for snow so Raven will experience her first snow and of course do the piktyur, pikyur! heheehe!
They had more inches of snow there but here in our place just light snow but it is mixed with sleet and freezing rain! worse!

Talking about my 2 lil puppies, oh! they enjoyed the snow. Bandit was sitting in the window while watching the snowflakes. When hubby got home, we took Dino and Bandit for a short walk.

wazz up????

I'm back! Same problem again, I forgot my username, email and password that's why can't visit my blog regularly. LOL! Well, it's Year 2009! tigulang na sad ta ani ! LOL! But anywayz, I'm thankful to God for another year that He gave us especially my new job,.

As usual, I miss my family way back home and I miss my country life in Hillsville, I miss those things that I used to do for 3 years like, walking in the New River Trail, climbing at Buffalo Mountain, taking pictures at the edge of Lover's Leap Mountain, etc. I was glad we went home again on New Year, Dino and Bandit missed our yard where they can lay down, run and relax unlike here in Charlottesville they don't have enough freedom because many dogs are walking in the park and they can't run good in our backyard,. Every time we went to the old house in Hillsville they're so excited. Next weekend I have 4 days off since it's Martin Luther King Day on next Monday and Tuesday is Inauguration Day, so we will go back to Hillsville again for some important things to be done! yayyayaayyyy!!!!

Weekend Walk

This is our weekend activity, walking with our 2 lil buddies, Dino and Bandit. Me and my husband do this to be more physically fit and most of all to lose weight and get rid of my bilbil! lol!
By taking a walk you'll be surprised at the photographic opportunities and you'll have to see the terrific beauty of nature. - So put on your walking shoes, grab your camera and go for a walk.

Lovers' Leap - Patrick County, Virginia

This photo was taken 3 days after I arrived here in Virginia. This is one of the most photographed areas of Southwest Virginia. Out of curiosity, I asked my husband how this place got its name, Lovers' Leap. He explained that Lovers' Leap is a toponym given to a number of locations of great height, usually isolated, with the risk of a fall and the possibility of a deliberate jump and there are many local stories on how this place got its name. It is a legend of romantic tragedy. ( hhhmmm... )

When we got home, I did research about that place, I went to Patrick County VA Tourism website and this is what I've learned about Lovers' Leap:

"In the 1600's, the Indians inhabited the Blue Ridge Mountains. White settlers started arriving and began clearing land to farm. Conflict arose between the Indians and the settlers. Legend has it that the son of a settler saw the twinkle in the eyes of the Chief's daughter, Morning Flower, and was immediately love-struck. The couple began to meet secretly and their love continued to grow. The young man and Indian maiden were threatened and shunned. With the beautiful rock and wildflowers as their backdrop, they jumped into the wild blue yonder ensuring they would be together forever. As you gaze out at Lover’s Leap, you can still see the evidence of their love in the beautiful view and hear them whisper in the cool evening breezes. "

Wow! it is so sad but still wow! Too much love will kill you!
